AMPLIFYING THE VOICE of grassroots physicians, A. Jay Chauhan, DO, FAOCO, president of the Chicago Medical Society, met with Illinois State Rep. Greg Harris on Aug. 14, and with State Senate President John Cullerton, on Sept. 27. The talks, which focused on the specific concerns of Chicago-area physicians and medical practices, complement CMS’ advocacy in Washington. Dr. Chauhan noted that proposals for policy and legislation often originate at the Chicago Medical Society and then are brought forward to the Illinois State Medical Society. ISMS may then draft a bill or lobby for a bill’s legislative implementation based on the CMS proposal. This is an example of how the two organizations work together to improve medical practice and patient care.
