We Need to Hear From You

Dear Colleagues,

The Chicago Medical Society is writing you in follow up to a recent Joint Commission statement. On May 29, 2020, the Joint Commission released its position on the Prevention of Nosocomial Covid-19 Infections as Organizations Resume Regular Care Delivery .

One of the provisions stated that “Healthcare organizations should no longer be operating under crisis standards of care and no longer following contingency strategies for use of gowns, eye protection, or facemasks when they resume elective procedures and ambulatory care.”

Furthermore, according to the statement, “The effectiveness of crisis strategies is uncertain, and they may pose a risk for transmission of infectious diseases between healthcare providers and patients or other safety concerns. Therefore, the volume of care delivered under crisis standards should be limited, and an expansion of services to elective procedures and ambulatory care would be inappropriate until patient care activities are back within routine standards.”

In keeping with the Chicago Medical Society’s mission to protect the health and safety of physicians and their patients, we would like to hear from physicians.

We ask that you please let us know if your hospital or organization will be following this guideline and if there is anything the Chicago Medical Society can assist you or your hospital with in terms of education, advocacy or the securing of PPE through our PPE purchasing program. You can contact me at CMSPresident@CMSDOCS.ORG .

We look forward to hearing from you.
